Procedures for auditions:
- Be familiar with the entire play. Students may prefer a part, but may be better suited for another. 54 students returned completed packets. UIL limits us to 15 actors, 5 crew, and 4 alternates. All children will be included in the clinics, contests, etc. There are always jobs to be done.
- We will call for 7-10 students to read designated pages on stage. After a couple of pages are read, we will call another group of children to the stage. If one student is particularly talented, he/she will stay on stage and re-read the part. Each student will be able to read twice, but the parts may not be the ones they wanted. We will do our best to accommodate each child.
- I study the completed packets and weigh answers; those are included in my decision. I will look at past behaviors during rehearsals in previous years if the child is a repeat one act play child. I consider the number of tardies and absences that "seasoned" theatre kids have had.
- With new children, I observe their behavior when they enter the auditorium on the day of auditions.
- I look at extra-curricular events that children are committed to.
- Saying all this, I may not "get" it right, and I may have to shift actors around during the season. Often, I have used understudies rather than the original actor for contest. I try to be fair.
- I will list the 15 acting roles and understudy roles on the window outside my room. Spencer Jackson is my sound person.
- My job is to work with as many children as I can,(within reason) ensure that each child has an exciting theatrical experience, and produce an award-winning play. Please call me or text if you have questions.806-470-9940.
